Commercial-free and steeped in motherhood and apple pie values were Mickey, Goofy, Donald and Silly Symphony. That was the original Disney.

New Disney Morality Vs Mickey

Today the amplitude of the Tween-To-Pop immorality is screaming upwards glorifying date rape, unsafe sex and violence.

Is Disney Channel Doing Anything for Music or Just for Its Corporate Shareholders?

Today, aimed at the 7 to 14 year old demographic, Disney Channel has done what very few have been able to achieve: create big hits and popular talent out of a fresh crop of nobody's. It has become the children's version of MTV which is also not what it claims to be [another time].

This is everyone's target audience and Disney has nailed the demographic.

"You’re dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway." - Walt Disney (decades ago)

Modern Disney gives Walt Disney's 'imagineering' mantra new meaning. (Walt Disney Imagineering is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of The Walt Disney Company and its affiliates.

Corporate marketers like Disney plan branding lifetimes. Not just targeting life passages like the pre-pubescent teen their aim is to develop top-of-mind position and brand loyalty for their corporate message and sponsors throughout a lifetime. Long term psychographic management is the science that yields good brand management for manageable markets.

According to a marketing theory Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez music is a step up in the same genre as songs on Tree House, BackYardigans and Muppets. It's a niche invented by Walt Disney with the likes of Fabian, Annette Funicello, The Everly Brothers etc. And then there was the ultimate tween idol, Michael Jackson. They were later followed by tween obsessions the likes of Keanu Reeves, Kirk Cameron and River Phoenix.

Isn't "tween" loosely defined by the period of time when boys of the same age lag girls of the same age in their development?

If the kids were allowed to choose on their own, without parental control "directing their attention to what is the good stuff" [good for who?], where would they go? Wouldn't they start producing music themselves in a whole new vein or would they borrow from the relatively ancient past and build upon that within the new paradigm? We may never know.

Everybody seems to want to form kids' minds but large corporations are better at it than parents.

According to many Disney themes, dating and courting are fine societal norms for preteens. Date rape, unprotected sex and violence are cool for teens. Wait. Who is supposed to decide this stuff for the kids? Parents, or Disney. Who has the kids' attention? Disney. Disney decides.

"AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Steppenwolf, and Deep Purple" are all from the same corporate-driven music world, albeit incipient at the time, as is Disney Corp's Justin Bieber, Kiely Williams, Miley Cyrus and Zack Efron. The old rockers had higher age demographics as their target audience. They skipped the tween-to-pop period. Today the classic rockers still have a following among white-haired or balding formerly upward-mobile, now-retired hippiesSelena Gomez with lots of wisdom about how things should be but no say in it all. And their children are beginning to parent the Hannah Montanna generation.

Jumping from tween star to pop star seems difficult.

Disney tween stars like Britney Spears, Christine Aguilera, Kiely Williams and others made the transition from tween idol to adult pop star with their clothes OFF. Former tween stars who kept their clothes on, like Ashley Tisdale and Hilary Duff, have not done as well.

Even sweet Miley Cyrus with her disarming whiskey drawl is shifting from tween star to pop star with a sexy splash. Semi-nude photos for Vanity Fair and a pole dancing routine at the Teen Choice Awards of all places is not the Miley Cyrus we saw five years ago at 12 years old.

All we saw back then was Miley Cyrus’ frizzy hair, big smile, practiced poise and fearlessness when it came to staring straight into a camera and reciting lines. NOw you see alot more of Miley.

In June 2010 Cyrus’ latest YouTube offering, her video for the title track off her album “Can’t Be Tamed,” involves a birdcage set that doubles as a pole-dancing playground, writhing background dancers and an outfit notable for its feathers and decolletage.

Like Disney teen idols Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake before her, Cyrus is now making the murky transition into adult artist. How messy will that get?

Disney stars like Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato are all Christians who at one time or another wore purity rings and promised stuff to god on live TV. Today they have nude pictures scattered all over the internet and compete with Lindsay Lohan for scandalous behaviour.

The amplitude of the Tween-To-Pop immorality is screaming upwards glorifying date rape, unsafe sex and violence.

That's what parents with 13s-14s need to worry about.

Last I remember I was face down
Ass up, clothes off, broke off, dozed off...

What he did to me last night felt so good
I must have been on drugs
I hope he used a rubber
Or I'mma be in trouble
